Second wave of Covid-19 pandemic concerns local ward councillor

FOUWAYS– Mthembu said the second wave of a deadly Coronavirus will have deleterious impact to livelihood and to the ongoing development projects in the area.

Ward 96 councillor Sbusiso Mthembu has urged local residents to be extra cautious and continue to adhere to the Level 3 adjusted restrictions after the country entered into the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mthembu said the second wave of the deadly coronavirus would have a deleterious impact on livelihoods and to the ongoing development projects in the area.

“We have started the new year on a negative note as a country,” he said.

“The second wave of the global pandemic requires us to be extra vigilant given the rate of infections of the new variant as defined by health professionals.”

He added that the second wave would also have negative impacts on local small medium and micro enterprises, and jobs created through development projects in the area.

“This has a potential negative impact to certain construction projects. Some construction sites will close and some will operate with a reduced workforce due to possible cases of Covid-19.

“This will also affect production and ultimately income to be generated by our local small businesses. It will certainly increase the level of unemployment in the community and some families will again go to bed hungry.”

Mthembu urged community members to continue adhere to the Covid-19 restrictions recently announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa to minimise the chances of contracting the virus.
