Buy a mask and support anti-GBV efforts
FOURWAYS– Co-founder of Stand United SA, Megon Schutte said the organisation has embarked on a campaign to manufacture masks to raise funds that will be used to raise awareness about gender-based violence.
Last year, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared gender-based violence in South Africa as a second pandemic faced by the country and launched a war against it and Covid-19.
In their quest to combat the scourge of gender-based violence, Fourways-based non-profit organisation, Stand United SA has embarked on a campaign to raise funds to be used in the fight against it.
Co-founder of the organisation, Megon Schutte said they had embarked on a campaign to manufacture masks to raise funds that would be used to raise awareness about gender-based violence. “This initiative will help us fight both pandemics at once. People will buy these masks with a message that encourages them to join the fight against gender-based violence at a reasonable price while protecting themselves from Covid-19,” she explained.
“The money raised will be used to support our work to fight the scourge in our communities. By purchasing a mask, cap or a T-shirt written [on them] ‘Report GBV Standunitedsa.org’, you are helping individuals who fall victim to gender-based violence, abuse and bullying,” Schutte continued.
She explained that funds raised through this initiative would allow every individual to access their services which were free of charge.
“Our long-term goal through your pledges, donations and purchases will allow every individual access to our platforms without restrictions currently in play. Every life matters and [everyone] has a right to live a life free of abuse.” Schutte also urged community members to report gender-based violence in the community to the police.
