Diepsloot non-profit works to stop pet neglect
DIEPSLOOT– Mary Kwembu has urged community members to take care of animals and refrain from neglecting and abandoning their pets.
The founder of a Diepsloot-based animal rescue non-profit organisation, Mary Kwembu, has embarked on a mission to educate community members and pet owners about the importance of animal sterilisation.
Kwembu said it pained her to see pets neglected by their owners and animals getting knocked down by cars in the road. In 2018, she started All in One Animal Rescue to provide care to homeless, abused, neglected, injured, and unwanted animals that would otherwise not have been cared for. “All in one Animal Rescue was founded in 2018 because of my love for animals,” she said.
“Our centre that currently takes care of six dogs is based in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg. It all started as a hobby that gave birth to the animal shelter to give them a second chance at life.
“I go around the streets of Diepsloot driving my car to feed and take care of animals, and teach the community members about the importance of taking care of these voiceless animals.”
She urged community members to take care of animals and refrain from neglecting and abandoning their pets.
“People with unwanted pets can take them to the SPCA or bring them to us because we have a good working relationship with Randburg SPCA. We also urge community members to support our work by donating pet food so that we can feed those we are taking care of in our facility,” Kwembu concluded.
