Midrand police have warned the public about a spike in house robberies and hijackings in Midrand.

The Midrand Police Station spokesperson, Sergeant Thabiso Selowa said that Vorna Valley has been a hotspot recently, with a number of house robberies taking place in two weeks. The sergeant alerted residents to be on the lookout for a white Volkswagen Polo which is usually occupied by three men.

“Crime prevention is posted around the said area of concern. Should you see anything suspicious please call me, sector managers and crime prevention itself. Encourage your clients and communities to always lock their gates and doors,” Selowa said.

She warned that these crimes usual took place during the day and electrical appliances were targeted. “These robbers use firearms and no fatalities have been reported so far. We do however advise that you cooperate with the assailants during the commotion, don’t try to resist. Your life is very important.”

Selowa concluded that house robberies were not the only problems in Midrand. “There has been a rise in hijackings and Toyota Hilux’s have been largely targeted. Single cab motorists should be vigilant, especially on the N1 [near] Allandale and Olifantsfontein roads.”
