Riverside View Residents Association on a mission to restore stability in the neighbourhood

RIVERSIDE VIEW– Aphane said their priority was to restore safety and order in the neighbourhood that has been plagued with crime and gangsterism over the past few years.

In pursuit of a crime-free community, the leadership of Riverside View Residents Association has embarked on a mission to restore safety and order in the neighbourhood.

The residents’ association was formed by a group of concerned residents in November last year to help address various social issues in the community.

President of the association, William Aphane said their priority was to restore safety and order in the neighbourhood that has been plagued by crime and gangsterism over the past few years.

“Our community is a very young community. The first group of people who have located houses in the area came in 2017. Over the past few years, we’ve realised that lawlessness in the neighbourhood was taking its toll. Crime, gangsterism, noise and disorder had become a normal thing. As a group of concerned community members, we decided to do something to bring all these to an end,” he added.

“We formed Riverside View Residents Association in November last to deal with these challenges faced by the community.”

Aphane said they have established a team of patrollers to ensure that those breaking the law were brought to book.

“We work very close with SAPS, JMPD and other government institutions to ensure that our community is getting services. We go house to house checking if everyone is adhering to the curfew and to ensure that they don’t play loud music after 10 pm. Those that we found in contravention are taken to task. Residents are supporting our work and more people have joined us.”
