Lonehill Residents Association takes aim at notorious potholes
LONEHILL– Abrahams said the pothole-free Lonehill initiative was triggered by lack of response from Johannesburg Roads Agency.
Environment manager for Lonehill Residents Association, Nadeem Abrahams has thanked local residents for their contributions towards a pothole-free Lonehill initiative.
Abrahams said the pothole-free Lonehill initiative was triggered by the apparent lack of response from Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).
“We have logged regular calls with the JRA to come out and repair the potholes but after all the trials and tribulations that the JRA was facing and is still struggling with, the backlog is almost incomprehensible.
“They are now struggling to catch up on the backlog and may only get to repair the Lonehill potholes toward the end of the year. The community decided to assist them and to do it for ourselves.”
He added that the association would like to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the Lonehill community for their generous donations toward the initiative. “The way the Lonehill community responded to our call for donations really shows their commitment toward enhancing the little slice of heaven that we call Lonehill.
“Filling the potholes will improve the day-to-day living in the area and to top it all off, is the fact that we as the residents of Lonehill did it for ourselves and for our community. This initiative has definitely showed the patronage spirit of our community and the village living lifestyle which we have in Lonehill.”
Media officer for JRA, Kelebogile Mafa said residents were not allowed to repair potholes. Mafa added that any work carried out on roads maintained by JRA must follow due process.
“For example, an external service provider would have to complete a way leave application process with JRA and have it approved before carrying out any work,” said Mafa.
