120 days to deliver
SUNNINGHILL – Ward 93 councillor Candice James was pleased to see problem areas attended to during the service delivery campaign.
Ward 93 was recently the destination of the 120 Days of Service Delivery campaign which was launched in February this year.
Work began in the ward on 24 May with Sunninghill first on the list for service delivery backlog issues to be addressed.
Various City departments including Johannesburg Water, City Power, Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and the Department of Social Development all met at the Sunninghill Taxi Rank to begin their work.

Region A regional director, Abigail Ndlovu was also present at the taxi rank for the campaign.
“We’re sitting with a massive backlog so we are trying to catch up by visiting all wards, street by street. Where there is a problem, we are there to solve it,” Ndlovu explained.

Councillor of Ward 93, Candice James said it was great to have the various organisations in the ward sorting out a number of problem areas. “I had reached out to residents in the community to make note of any problem areas that needed to be addressed within the ward. Continuing with that, I wanted residents to check the areas they raised concerns over and give feedback,” she said.
“There were a number of issues in Sunninghill ranging from road markings to potholes. We would like to have repairs like this on a more frequent basis, but it is great to have the backlog addressed.”

Region A citizen relationship assistant manager, Pierre Nel highlighted some of the other accomplishments of the campaign. “The environmental health department did fly baiting and baiting for rodents. The health inspectors checked the food vendors for compliance to health and Covid-19 regulations and trained the traders on the five key [rules] to safer food,” he said.
“JRA did patching and resurfacing on Tana and Nakuru roads in Sunninghill, and Lewis Street in Lonehill. They also did road painting along Leeuwkop Road. City Power replaced streetlights all over Ward 93 and fixed a cable fault under the pavement at the corner of Lesley and Turley roads.”
The campaign was scheduled to continue in Ward 94 on 31 May.
