Police and Riverside View Residents Association join forces to combat crime in the area
RIVERSIDE VIEW– William Aphane said crime and lawlessness will be only defeated in the neighbourhood if community members work together with the police.
In an effort to combat crime in their neighbourhood, the newly formed Riverside View Residents Association recently launched a group of street patrollers that will work closely with the police to bring order in the community.
The launch of the initiative was hosted on 22 May. President of the residents association, William Aphane said crime and lawlessness would be only defeated in the neighbourhood if community members worked together with the police.
“We are launching Riverside View street patrollers under the auspice of our safety and security portfolio in order to help combat crime and lawlessness in our community,” Aphane said.
“Our patrollers will work with the police to help fight crime that has become a normal thing in the neighbourhood. They will also ensure that residents adhere to the curfew put in place by government. Riverside View Residents Association is committed to a crime-free neighbourhood and will only do so with the support of the community.”

Commander of visible policing at Diepsloot Police Station, Colonel Matome Mohale said, “We always encourage our communities to set up community structures like this one and join forces with the police in the fight against crime. Police alone cannot win the fight against crime if community members are not part of the fight. I will take all matters raised by residents to station management and come back with answers.”
Mohale added that they had appointed a new sector manager at the station and procured another vehicle to patrol the area.
