Local music artist urge youngsters to resist drugs temptation

RIVERSIDE VIEW– Machethe said he wrote the song to encourage youngsters not to forget where they come from and resist drugs temptations.

Riverside View-based musician and songwriter, Lucky Machethe, also known as Mr Skiripoto, dropped his single, Rea Kosheng as a winter offering to music lovers.

Machethe has been in the music industry and entertaining crowds for more than 20 years and has released 13 solo albums.

Machethe is a Bolobedu musician – the traditional music of the Bolobedu ethnic group from Limpopo.

Machethe said he composed his recent single to encourage youngsters not to forget where they come from and resist drug temptations.

“I’ve been doing Bolobedu music genre for almost 20 years now. I grew up in Limpopo listening to local music. I was inspired by the late South African disco musician of Shangaan descent, Peta Teanet and his music triggered an interest in me to enter into the music industry.

“When I wrote this song, I had two things in mind, to speak to the youth and take the Bolobedu music genre to the next level. I wanted to encourage young people to love their culture and stay away from drugs and crime,” he added.

Machethe said when he went into the studio to ‘brew’ Rea Kosheng, he teamed up with the award-winning music group, Limpopo Roots to add some ‘flavour’ to the song.

“People have responded very well to the song. It has received air play in different communities and national radio stations across the country and I am very pleased with the reception the song has received so far. In June this year, we will be shooting a music video in Tzaneen. I will feature Khekhapa Khelobedu traditional dancers to complement the message in this song.”

Machethe added that his music, including the new hit single, Rea Kosheng was available on all digital music platforms.
