Runners are ready for champs

FOURWAYS – The final date of both the Inter-League Team Championships and the Inter-District Cross-Country Championships is set to be announced after its postponement due to the increase in Covid-19 cases in the country.

Fourways High School congratulated a number of their cross-country athletes for their qualifications for various district championships.

A number of athletes placed in the top 20 of the Northern Districts Cross-Country League.

Their qualifications will see them selected to take part in the Inter-Districts Cross-Country Championships which will have athletes from the southern, central and northern districts.

Their placing has let them qualify for the Inter-League Championships to run against teams in the three leagues. They will compete against the top three senior and junior boys’ and girls’ teams in the three leagues.

Teacher in charge of cross-country at the school Kerry Winson said she is incredibly proud of the athletes and what they achieved in the league, despite now not being permitted to travel for inter-school events.

“As a result of the education department’s recent Gazette which does not allow for inter-school travel and competition because of Covid, we have had to postpone the championships until the third wave is over and protocols change.

“However, we are very proud of our athletes who performed so well throughout the season and have been selected for champs.”
