Three local non-profits benefit from donations
WATERFALL – Three local charities expressed their gratitude to the greater SuperSPAR community for their involvement in the Winter Drive initiative that ran until 20 June.
A winter drive initiated by SuperSPAR in Polofields, Robindale and Olivedale with the help of a local councillor saw three non-profit organisations receive a number of donated items on 24 June.
The drive ran from 8 to 20 June with three trolleys made available at each store which encouraged residents in the various areas to donate any non-perishables, toys, and clothes.

Marketing manager at SuperSPAR in Polofields, Kyla de Waal said she did not expect a high number of items to be handed over to the organisations.
“I was overwhelmed when I saw all the donated items this morning, and it really was an amazing turnout. We had to rush to get everything separated for the correct charities,” she explained.
“All three SPARs are donating to all the chosen charities. This morning we had a huge number of donated items come in from a combination of the community and the other two stores, and it really exceeded our expectations.”
The drive was initiated by owner of the three SPAR stores, Magnus Loubser who had contacted James.
“He approached [me], as SPAR was wanting to do a winter drive and were not sure of the correct avenues to go through. I suggested each store choose a charity and we divide it up between the three organisations,” James said.

The organisations that were assisted were Midrand SPCA, Lerato Day Care and Preschool and Midrand Association for the Physically Disabled.
General manager of Midrand SPCA, inspector Pam Pretorius said the donations generally needed at the centre included washing powder, toilet paper and various other items for the staff. She said the items ‘are very much appreciated and will go to good use.
Founder of Lerato Day Care and Preschool in Ivory Park, Dorcas Khobo expressed immense gratitude to the community and SuperSPAR for the donations to the school. “This is the first time we are meeting SPAR because we always speak over the phone. I honestly don’t know what to say, we are just so grateful to everyone who donated things to the daycare,” she said.
