MIDRAND – Many educators queued outside the Midrand Fire Station to each get their Johnson and Johnson jabs on 25 June.
Many teachers from Region A queued outside Midrand Fire Station to get their Covid-19 vaccinations on 25 June.
According to the Region A Health deputy director Nelly Shongwe, there are two sites, Kanana Community Hall and Midrand Fire Station, which are being used to vaccinate teachers in Midrand.
Gauteng Education Department’s spokesperson Steve Mabona said initially there were no sites in the area for teachers to get vaccinated so that was why these sites were made available.
Lethabo Khoza, a Grade 6 teacher at Midrand Primary School expressed how she felt waiting in line to get her vaccine. She said she was a bit nervous because she didn’t know how her body was going to react. “I am, however, excited that I am being helped to prevent the worst. I wish they could just roll out to learners too so that learning and teaching can take place so that we can be able to cover the curriculum.”
Head of the English department at Sefikeng Primary School, Marcus Cholo said, “I feel happy because this is like a gift for me, it is very important that I have done it. I would like to ask my colleagues to come and get vaccinated, our department has shown that they have an interest and want the best for us.” teachers.”
