Local is nominated as a South African hero
FOURWAYS – The third annual South African Heroes Awards sees Woman’s Warehouse founder Nadine Clevely nominated in the Women Empowerment category.
A community member has been nominated in the South African Heroes Awards for the work her company does to provide a wide range of support and empowerment for women.
Founder of Woman’s Warehouse in Northlands Deco Park Nadine Clevely has been nominated in the Women’s Empowerment category in the South African Heroes Awards (SAHAs) set to take place on September 25.
Upon hearing of her nomination, Clevely said she was slightly sceptical of the news at first, but still honoured. “Having not heard of African Heroes before, since I’m not a socialite, I was sceptical at first until my marketing manager started doing backflips down the passage. Once I did my research it became clear what an accolade and honour it is to be nominated,” she said.

The warehouse hosts a number of workshops that help women with intimate health, self-defence in various scenarios from attempted rape to hijackings and general DIY projects at home.
The warehouse made its official launch last year. “This was a God-given idea. I prayed and fasted about this, and God gave me a picture of Woman’s Warehouse. Over lockdown Level 5 – whilst praying for my other business – God said: open Woman’s Warehouse.
“I think His timing has been perfect, because now, more than ever, during this pandemic, GBV, period poverty and equality in the workplace have been highlighted.”
Clevely hopes to continue making spaces to make women equal in male-dominated workspaces and destroying gender-based violence by equipping women with the needed defence skills.
The SAHAs launched in 2019 thanks to its founder, Amanda Matshaka, and aims to celebrate and acknowledge the country’s unsung heroes.
