Tips to prevent house and business robberies

DOUGLASDALE – Keeping alert during all hours of the day and enhancing security on one’s house can prevent a number of crimes from taking place.


Douglasdale police and private security officers visited Norscot on October 6 to discuss safety tips with residents to use during the holiday season.

Tips to prevent house robbery:

  • Always be alert and on the lookout for suspicious vehicles and people
  • Enhance security through fitting access doors with security gates, and burglar bars on windows
  • Request neighbours to keep an eye on your house when you are away for an extended period of time
  • Do not open gates and doors for strangers.
  • Verify a person’s details before employing them
  • Check the authenticity of a contractor before allowing them access to the premises.

Tips to prevent business robbery:

  • Do not keep too much money on the premises
  • Be alert for suspicious customers
  • Do not keep the shop open till late at night
  • Avoid being alone, especially at night.
  • Business owners must not open for anybody after the business has closed.
