Kids cook up a storm

NIETGEDACHT – The top five cooks at HeronBridge College wowed judges with their prepared dishes in their cook-off.


Five HeronBridge College Grade 11 learners prepared to slice up competition in the annual HeronBridge Cook-Off Finals at Guvon Academy.

The top five in the grade consisted of Jared Blacklock, Matthew McMenamin, Max Botha, Charlize Resnik and Lixhanti Tisani ready to battle it out for top prizes on October 16. The learners were tasked the month before, as part of life orientation, to cook a heritage-themed main meal for their families.

They had an hour to prepare a main meal and beverage with ingredients provided. With the learners pushing on, Chef Karen of the Academy demonstrated and made quesadillas for parents and spectators.

Charlize Resnik is ready to prepare her best dish in the finals.

After the judges tasted and reviewed their meals and drinks, the winners were announced:

• First place: Max Botha

• Second place: Lixhanti Tisani

• Third place: Jared Blacklock

Prizes won were sponsored by the Guvon Academy, Dynamics Sales Tupperware and Hirsch’s Homestores.
