Marketing coordinator at the school Candice Gibson said the valediction ceremony took place on October 15.

“This year’s event was spirited by an emotional evening that included traditional ‘bell ringing’ where each pupil rings the bell that they also rang in Grade 8. Reading of heartfelt speeches and special ‘thank-you letters that our students had written to their parents in acknowledgement of their love and support over the years.”

Speaking at the event, head girl at the school, Xola Mguqulwa, said learners have power and responsibility in their hands to steer their lives toward the direction of their dreams. “I walked toward the entrance marked ‘Grade R’ with my shoelaces untied, pulling along my roller bag in my left hand while waving my mom goodbye with my right.

“I blink and suddenly I’m in high school and I have matrics telling me to bark at a tree until it barks back. Somewhere between the slipping of time we started to understand the world better and realised that we have the voices and the power to change it. Somewhere between then and now, we realised that our diversity and uniqueness is what brings us together.”
