Douglasdale Business and Residents Forum receives donation of aloes to help revive destroyed community garden along Douglasdale Drive
DOUGLASDALE– Mottram also appealed to members of the community to help them remove a pile of debris left by the contractor next to the garden to keep the neighbourhood clean.
Douglasdale Business and Residents Forum (DBRF) has received a much-needed donation of aloes from the local resident and community patron, Sue Rusconi to help revive a community garden at the intersection of Douglasdale Drive and Leslie Avenue.
This was after plants in a 13-year-old community verge garden was vandalised and some plants removed by an unknown contractor that wanted to erect an illegal billboard in November last year.
DBRF chairperson Susan Mottram urged other members of the community to also lend a helping hand in the process of reviving the garden.
“I would like to thank Sue for helping us ensure that our garden looks as beautiful as it was before vandalism. We will put the aloes to good use to make our gardens look even more beautiful. We will also stretch them as far as they can go on our streets. We have kept these beautiful aloes in a safe place until we go and plant them,” she said.

Mottram also appealed to members of the community to help them remove a pile of debris left by the contractor next to the garden to keep the neighbourhood clean.
“We are seeking a donation of debris removal. There is a pile of debris that was started by contractors who ripped out about 30% of our plants and dumped them there last year November. We have logged many calls to, and have reference numbers from, the Joburg Municipal call centre since 22 November 2022, but no service has been provided,” she said.
