HeronBridge College to represent South Africa in polocrosse
Local polocrosse player Megan Vorster is proud to have been called up for the second time in representing South Africa in matches against Zimbabwe and Zambia at U21 level.
A HeronBridge College learner has been called up to represent the South African U21 side in polocrosse for matches against two African countries in July.
Grade 11 learner Megan Vorster will represent her country for the second time in an upcoming tour against Zimbabwe and Zambia. She took part in the Gauteng Polocrosse Championships at the Ngwenya Polocrosse Club in Lanseria from May 14 to 15.
In the championships, Megan competed in the A division and her team finished fourth out of eight teams.

“Although we weren’t able to make it to the finals, it was a privilege to play against world-class players and even players who are more experienced than me. I learnt so much and took so many lessons out of the tournament that I can now use in my later games,” she said.
Megan began riding horses from the age of two, and it was only in 2016 when she began playing polocrosse and competing in tournaments around 2018.
She had previously represented the country as a Protea in an unofficial U14 test in 2018 and was selected the following year for the U14 South African team in an outgoing international against Zambia.

While this will be Megan’s second time representing South Africa in polocrosse, she said there was still massive pride in being selected.
“I am very excited that I have been selected. It is such an honour to be representing my country again and cannot wait to play against the incoming team.
“I enjoy the team spirit and friendship that I make in these types of environments. The friendships are true and long-lasting. Not only am I representing my country but also myself as I am the only one in my family that has played polocrosse.”
Polocrosse is a sports Megan takes part in outside of school but is a first-team tennis player for the school.
Looking to the future, she said she would like to work towards becoming a high handicap and playing in more tournaments.
“I’d like to play in the annual Shongweni High Goal which is all the top ladies and men’s teams competing in a tournament. I am also striving towards being selected for the next South African ladies’ team.”
She concluded in thanking her parents, mentors and coaches for all their guidance and effort throughout the years in reaching her current successes.
