Diepsloot Football Club allegedly forced to pay to use sports ground

New church rules worry parents about their children being driven to the streets.

Diepsloot’s Cobra United Football Club has been practising on grounds owned by a church for several years.

However, now the church is allegedly demanding R500 per month in return for the use of the field.
Coach for the club Richmond Phidzaulima claimed that ever since the church got a new pastor the children have been stopped from practising on the field unless the club paid.

He added most of the children were from disadvantaged backgrounds and their parents couldn’t afford to pay the monthly fee.
He said the parents were concerned because their children would be on the streets instead of being at practice where it was a safe environment.

So far the parents have been able to pay for two months but he was afraid that they might not be able to make any more payments in the future. “Before we were stopped, we had plus-minus 120 kids. Do you see how many souls we are saving?”
He urged the community to help where they could.
