Douglasdale police embark on Youth Day awareness campaigns

Local police officers had a busy three days leading up to Youth Day as Douglasdale police headed to various suburbs for a number of awareness campaigns.

Between June 14 and 16 in celebration of Youth Month, Douglasdale police alongside a number of stakeholders visited various communities in their precinct to raise awareness on different issues.

The police, South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca) and Impact Africa first visited Pipeline informal settlement to address drugs and substance abuse, and its impact on the community.

The next day saw police alongside Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF), Gender-based violence brigades and Social Development visiting Kya Sands.
The spokesperson for Douglasdale police Captain Mpho Tshetlhane said, “Awareness was made on gender-based violence, domestic violence, child safety, drugs and substance abuse. The campaign ended with the handing over of food parcels.”

On June 16, police and a number of stakeholders held a Youth Day celebration at Bridgetown Sports Ground in Randburg. They were joined by the CPF, Sanca, Toyota, non-profit organisation MTM Hope Giver Foundation, Bridgetown Rover Football Club, Ekuvukeni Orphans and Gender-Based Violence Organisation.

“Awareness was made on gender-based violence, assault to grievous bodily harm, murder, drugs and substance abuse. Pamphlets on safety tips were also distributed. The event ended with a sports tournament.”
