Diepsloot police arrested a 34-year-old male murder suspect after being on the run for almost four months.
The suspect was arrested on July 9 in Diepsloot Ext 12 following a tip-off from a member of the public.
Police spokesperson Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said the suspect was remanded in custody following a brief appearance in Randburg Magistrate’s Court on July 12.
He said the suspect allegedly shot and killed a 35-year-old man with a firearm which was allegedly wrapped in a plastic bag.
“The victim was shot at a local tavern in March 2022 and the suspect disappeared after committing the crime. The investigation has revealed that a love triangle was the motive behind the senseless killing. The police pulled out all the stops in tracing the suspect leading to his arrest three months later.”
He said an informant played a critical role leading up to the arrest of the suspect after he kept the police abreast with the suspect’s movements.
