Local media personality is ready to dominate in the acting and singing world

Based in Kempton Park, Itumeleng Bokaba was in Kyalami to film a new season for the show uBettina Wethu, and has high hopes for her future in acting and music.

With the new season of an SABC 1 sitcom hitting the television screens, a local actress is excited to keep enriching her acting career on various platforms like Netflix that allow multicultural and personality spaces.

UBettina Wethu was filmed in Kyalami, with the second season set to tell more stories with humour, develop recurring characters and introduce new ones. Actress in the show Itumeleng Bokaba (29) is keen to keep growing her career in acting, as well as television presenting.

Bokaba plays Zaza Moloi in the show, who is an extroverted body-positivity advocate and a fun-loving woman. She said there are similar character traits between herself and Moloi in terms of what they believe in.
“In the show, she had a blog about body positivity and she had experienced a lot of bullying from it. It’s something that I have related to. She is someone who loves people and loves helping others, so it’s something she and I have in common.

“While there are similarities, there are also differences. She’s way more confident than I would’ve been on a day-to-day basis as I tend to shy away from people. I’m very much a loner, but Zaza [Moloi] is someone who loves taking up space.”
She added that she had a lot of fun playing Moloi in the show, but that has opened up a few different roles she would like to play in future shows and movies.

“My dream eventually is to play a villain at some point. I really want to see how I could perform in a villain role because everybody knows I can be really sweet and cute, but I want to show them something else. I genuinely think I could make an interesting kind of villain as well so it would be cool to shock the audience.”
Bokaba, who also sings, has recently released an afro-beats-styled EP. She hopes to develop her music career and would like to explore dance and EDM (electronic dance music).

“My latest release has really inspired me to do more music and explore toward those two genres. I want to see myself in Ibiza like Black Coffee, so I really want to be part of that party stage.
“Because I really like gaming and technology, I really think should EDM make a comeback. It brings me a little bit into that world of the lights and techno stuff, so it’s really intriguing to me.”
