Water in Douglasdale finally restored after 4 days
Johannesburg Water apologises to customers for the inconvenience, after the area experienced a water outage for four days.
After four frustrating days during a heatwave, Douglasdale residents finally have water.
Residents had complained about a water outage on Twitter on October 3 and also shared pictures of water running down the street because of a suspected pipe burst on Leslie Avenue.
Twitter user Bruwer shared a picture of the water running down Leslie Avenue on October 5, asking Joburg Water to ‘please help save water’ as, he said, the water had been flowing for two days at that point.

Many other Twitter users shared this sentiment of precious water being wasted, especially with the Level 2 water restrictions in place at the time. Twitter user Graham Savage tweeted, “Thousands of litres of water wasted and no water in the surrounding area.”

On October 6, Joburg Water said in a statement that they were complaints of a major burst on the corner of Leslie Avenue and Douglas Drive in Douglasdale. “The team has been dispatched to investigate further. The open hydrant will also be attended to. Once the burst is confirmed, the damaged pipeline will be exposed and relevant materials will be sourced for repairs. Further updates will be provided to customers.”
Later on October 6, Joburg Water said that teams investigated complaints of the major burst. “There was no reoccurring burst pipe located. The opened hydrant [on the corner of Leslie Avenue and Douglas Drive] was closed. The hydrant was opened to flush the network after the burst was repaired late yesterday evening. A no-water complaint at 26 Leslie Avenue was also resolved by the team. Johannesburg Water apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused.”
