Local beekeeper hosts workshop to prepare beekeepers fo honey harvesting season
Founder of The Beekeepers Hub said the beekeeping industry has many opportunities for young people.
A local professional beekeeper and founder of The Beekeepers Hub, Kai Hichert, said his organisation was on a mission to train aspiring beekeepers in different communities in order to feed down knowledge to younger generation.
The Paulshof-based beekeepers hub hosted a honey-harvesting workshop to help train and prepare local beekeepers for harvesting period.
Hichert said it was important to equip beekeepers with the necessary honey-harvesting skills as the industry enters the honey-harvesting season. “We opened this hub a year ago but we’ve managed to train more than 500 beekeepers. Our organisation also does a lot of training in different communities to help train people become professional beekeepers.”
He said their aim was to help equip local beekeepers while attracting more young people into the beekeeping industry. “We need to educate people about the importance of bees to our environment. I have been working in the beekeeping industry for over 10 years and I want to transfer the skills and knowledge that I have to the next generation. We need to introduce and teach more young people about beekeeping and also teach community members how to harvest honey without destroying colonies.”
He urged local community members who are interested in beekeeping to join their future training sessions that will be held at The Beekeepers Hub in Paulshof.
