Fourways motocross rider ready for European challenge after receiving national colours

A fire has been lit under 13-year-old motocross rider Trent Valsecchi since receiving his Protea colours.

South African colours donned on local motocross rider as he prepares for a trip in Europe.

Trent Valsecchi (13) from Fourways will be heading to the EMX 85cc European Championships as a Proteas colours recipient.
The young rider was noticeably proud of his achievement and said, “I worked hard for my ‘green and gold’, it’s one blazer I’m honoured to wear. I’m so used to being in my motocross gear. It feels super cool to wear fancy clothes and when I wear it, it makes me. I wear my country on my heart.”
Trent said last year ended with a bang. This was because of his two wins in the South African National Championship.

“Training is an everyday for me. I’m up at 05:00 with a trainer and I’m on the track six days a week. I started home schooling this year, so I have had way more time for training – both on and off the track.
“It’s my rookie year in the class as I have just turned 13. I am aiming to be ‘rookie of the year’.”

Fourways resident Trent Valsecchi is now a Proteas colours recipient as he readies himself for a trip to Europe.

The European championship will take place in France, Portugal, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia, and Czech Republic. Trent and his family have been saving for the upcoming four-month trip.
He is still looking for sponsors to assist him on his motocross journey. “I have managed to raise some funds since January, but I’m still off target. We had to buy two bikes to keep me going through the season, they cost us €12 000. My mom and dad have explained that I have to take that and times it by 20 [to get the rand value of R240 000].
“We are going to be living in a second-hand caravan and staying at the motocross tracks on our trip to save money.”

When asked to describe motocross, he responded, “Motocross is by far one of the most intense and gruelling sports there are in the world today, and it requires a great deal of physical and mental strength and I love every second of it.”
