Resident opens creche for abandoned children
A local resident started a creche because of the brutality of raping and killing children.
Nonhlanhla Msimango has been looking after children in the afternoons after three girls were raped and killed in 2018. She felt the need to take care of children and avoid having them on the streets and in unsafe areas. Msimango opened her creche to families that cannot afford to take their children to a safe aftercare.
She currently has 35 children she takes care of daily and two children she took into her home as they were abandoned by their parents. “I sleep with the 10-month-old and the five-year-old sleeps with my grandson. I believe every child deserves a loving home,” said Msimango. She further elaborated on how she was an orphan herself, so she wants to be a person who changes lives. “If I had someone, things would pan out differently, so I am going to take these kids and ensure that their future is not in the streets.”
“I wish to find something soon. I do not want these children to stay in the streets where they will be easily taken advantage of,” she said. She further elaborated on how she makes ends meet by selling scones, muffins, ice pops, and second-hand clothes.
The creche does get people who assist them. Foundations and NPOs always open their heart to help Msimango’s mission of getting children off the streets. Entruevest Impilo Foundation recently visited the creche to donate baby clothes as well as food for the nourishment of the children. According to the foundation director, Sandra Marx, “Food and shelter are basic human rights, and I find it terribly difficult to imagine going without these. As a teacher, my passion has always been children. Therefore, being able to make sure that these little ones are fed makes me extremely happy.” she further elaborated on how Children shouldn’t have to go hungry. Children are only little for a short time. They should play, learn, and develop without having to worry about where their next meal will come from. “This is one of the reasons we started the Entruevest Impilo Foundation. The children are the future of our country, and we need to invest in them today to ensure a better future for tomorrow,” said Marx.
