Fourways Runners Clubs prove they are the tough ones
The 32km race is called a tough one because that is how the runners express the race after completing it.
A total of 19 members of the Fourways Runners Club took part in the RAC (Rand Athletic Club) 32km Tough One race at the Old Parktonian Sports Club in Bordeaux on November 26.
All 19 members finished the race with two running for their green numbers. Peter Kisbey-Green and Nicola Woodhouse both claimed their green numbers at the end of the race. The annual event was so exciting for the runners this year, they wanted to give it their all.
According to Kisbey-Green, the RAC 32km Tough One lived up to its name once again. “My first run was in 1980, which was then called ’20 miler’. After 43 years I have finally earned my permanent number. It was a proud moment for me,” he said.
“The support and encouragement that you get on races are fantastic. I always look forward to socialising together after a race. I believe there is no other club quite like us.”
After the race with thousands of people, the club was happy to know that all proceeds from the event will be used by RAC to support a large group of talented runners, including some deaf runners who need transport, lodging, and meals during the Comrades weekend. With the great achievements of the club, the Fourways Road Runners’ chairman, Robyn Porteous, wishes more youngsters would join the club and take part in the races.
