In a statement released by Joburg Rides, race director, Fritz Pienaar, elaborated on how this event stands as the only event in Gauteng with the distinction of closed roads. “This event is not just a race, it is a testament to the spirit of unity and the love of cycling,” he added. A passionate rider, Nicholas Whittaker said, “0ver 90 km is not easy, I was struggling a bit, but I am glad I had Luca by my side, he motivated me to keep going. The heat is not making things easier.”

Most of the riders were completing the challenge to give back to their communities and charities. The Matsimela Ladies Clinics were riding for women’s empowerment. They pushed through the struggle of 94.7km and made it to the finish line like the sisters they are. Many charities rode in the competition and making it to the finish line was their win and their way of showing their commitment to their respective causes. Communities showed up to support their favourite cyclists and cheered them on as they soldiered on in the competition. Fourways Residents gathered at one of the water stations in Witkoppen. They cheered their lungs out and hoped for the best.
