Witkoppen Primary School kitchen revamped

Witkoppen Primary School is now in a better position to manage the school feeding scheme as a result of the generosity of Fourways Crossing.

As part of the ‘Celebrating Future Leaders’ back-to-school campaign, Fourways Crossing Shopping Centre renovated the kitchen at Witkoppen Primary School.

The marketing manager of the shopping centre Danis Manjate said they had identified that the school was faced with serious challenges when it came to its feeding scheme.

“We chose the school because we have previously worked with it and understand their difficulties. We had a discussion with the principal about what they need, and he told us about the feeding scheme at school being impacted by the inadequate number of cooking utensils such as pots, dishes etc.,” she said.

She said the campaign aimed to ensure that the feeding scheme ran smoothly so that learners at the school did not go hungry. Most of the children at the school depended on the school’s feeding scheme.

“We also wanted to ensure that it is easier for the kitchen staff to provide these meals effortlessly and hygienically to the learners. The revamp took us one weekend. The entire initiative was funded and coordinated by Fourways Crossing. We had help from our team members to complete the revamp.”

The shopping centre donated essential cookware appliances, cleaning supplies, and cutlery to assist the school’s feeding scheme.

“They had sent us a wish list of items that they desperately needed to make meal preparations easier for the staff and we bought the items on the wish list. The kitchen is now more effective in producing meals and we have received a letter from the principal and the district thanking us for the assistance to the school. The kitchen staff was extremely grateful and expressed how these items would make their jobs much easier.”

She said it wasn’t the first time the school had experienced the generosity of the centre. “Yes, it’s the only school that benefited from this campaign.”
