Madiba’s legacy lives on in style
Ciovita partners with the Nelson Mandela and Ride4Hope foundations to commemorate the late icon.
The commissioning of a limited-edition cycling jersey has commemorated the 10th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s passing.
South African cycling apparel manufacturer, Ciovita, joined forces with the Nelson Mandela and Ride4Hope foundations to launch a special apparel range in Broadacres on February 28.
Ride4Hope’s Luthando Kaka said for over five years they have partnered with the Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF) for fundraising purposes.
“When the Nelson Mandela Foundation marked the commemoration of Madiba, as a cycling community it was only right to host commemoration rides across the country with the biggest being at the Cradle of Humankind, Gauteng. Apart from spreading awareness and values of Nelson Mandela and NMF, we also invited Ciovita to introduce a cycling jersey with all the proceeds going to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.”
The cycling jersey was met with overwhelming support from cycling enthusiasts across South Africa and the world. This has resulted in nearly R100 000 being raised through the sales of the jersey. According to Kaka the funds that were raised will go towards NMF’s charity work.
“My highlight for the commemoration was seeing over 100 cyclists wearing the jersey and observing this important year. Seeing the many cyclists wearing the jersey in training further expands on the awareness drive we seek to achieve to further communicate the Nelson Mandela Foundation values.”
