Dainfern College. has witnessed a surge of interest and participation in equestrian pursuits among learners eager to explore the world of horse riding and all its thrilling possibilities.

Chevaun Barker, the school’s media and communications officer said this was mainly because the sport was not just about mastering the art of riding or competing in events, but it is also forging a deep connection between people and horses that is both therapeutic and incredibly rewarding.

She added participation in a wide range of sports comes with great benefits such as forging bonds, building character, and nurturing a sense of responsibility.

“The equestrian programme goes beyond the arena, offering preparatory and high school students a unique opportunity to develop empathy, communication skills, and resilience through their interactions with their majestic animals while representing their school in Sanesa with courage and pride.”

She said riding required focus, patience, and trust, qualities that were invaluable both in and out of the saddle. The bond formed between a horse and its rider transcends a mere sport; it becomes a partnership built on mutual respect and understanding.

Barker said they were proud of Ashlee Taylor, the school’s alumni who was the perfect example of the school’s equestrian excellence.

Taylor has been selected for the South African Young Rider Team and is set to compete in the prestigious South African Show Jumping FEI Tri-Nations Team competition against Ireland and Portugal.

This will take place at Kyalami Equestrian Park on May 4.
