Paulshof gears up for a spooktacular Halloween event

The event, organized by the Paulshof Residents Association, features trick-or-treating, costume contests, and decorated houses.

As the witching hour approaches, Paulshof Residents and Ratepayers Association is brewing up their annual Halloween celebration. With ghosts, goblins, and superheroes descending upon the streets, this year’s garden village is set to cast a spell of community spirit and fun, according to Albert Gumbo, the chairperson of the association.

“We have been holding street parties for years in Paulshof. It has grown over the years with more and more families displaying incredible enthusiasm in decorating their properties on the day.

“Children have embraced it, not just for the trick or treating but with a creative array of dress costumes. The super hero era, inspired by the avengers, has added colour to the streets of Paulshof, and our garden village in the north.”

He said last year’s festivities included two separate street parties: one in Paulshof central and another on the hill. While both are traditional street parties, the central event begins at Brackenhill Park and proceeds along a predetermined route through the neighborhood.

“Children walk with their parents, stopping for treats along the route. It is particularly pleasing the way adults throw themselves into dressing up for their own entertainment but also to make it memorable for the children.

“The residents association gives prizes for the top three houses for decoration, and best dressed children. The security service providers operating in the area maintain a presence as the event starts mid afternoon and ends in the early evening.”

Gumbo said they plan to combine the Paulshof central and Paulshof hill parties this year. He said they have been working hard to bring the community closer together this year, “for example, we hosted the Easter egg hunt in Paulshof east, by the stables. We are encouraging residents to know their neighbours and continue to foster the community spirit that Paulshof is known for.

“We do not dictate a theme for Halloween, we leave the residents to fully engage their decorative senses. Residents love the freedom they have to showcase their creative flair, and prizes are sponsored by local businesses who generously support the different events we hold throughout the year

“The focus is a sense of community in the face of petty crime, in looking after our greenbelts and other common areas, all in pursuit of a pristine Paulshof. We have not set the date yet, but it is coming soon.”
