School project gives Life Fourways Hospital nurses a little appreciation

Suzette Klingenberg organised an event dedicated to nurses at Life Fourways Hospital to thank their hard work in taking care of people through difficult times.

A heartwarming initiative brought together the Crawford International Fourways school community and local businesses in Fourways to express gratitude and appreciation to the nursing staff at Life Fourways Hospital on September 16.

The school community care project centred around four key objectives, according to the organiser of the event, Suzette Klingenberg, creating awareness, educating, and fostering compassion and empathy for the important work that nurses do.

“It is important, as it reminds us as a school community, and the greater Fourways community, of the profound impact of thankfulness in recognising the hard work, dedication, and care these nurses provide our community when facing difficult times. The importance of this initiative was to further foster compassion and empathy for our health care community in acknowledging their important service.”

The project was a resounding success and Klingenberg couldn’t be more proud to organise a project that touched a lot of hearts. She said with it, they are able to cultivate characteristics of empathy, generosity, and compassion within the school community by reflecting on the work such nurses do.

“We aimed to impact and touch the hearts and lives of each and every nurse at Life Fourways Hospital through our appreciation letters in acknowledging their service to our community.

“The project’s success could not have happened without the school community taking on an, ‘attitude of gratitude’, by participating with a letter of appreciation. This project not only united a school community but involved a local biscuit business, Lovleigh creations, and our main sponsor, Fourways Group, to accompany the letters with a special biscuit.”

She said their collaboration and support demonstrated how they can come together as a community to create something special, in honor of the nursing staff at Life Hospital.

“As Hellen Keller once said, ‘Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much’. This quote captured the support and collaboration of both the school and greater community in making this project a success starting with a small act of gratitude.”
