As the clock struck midnight, ushering in a brand-new year, Karin Venter, the facility manager of the La Vie Nouvelle Retirement Village reflected on the past 12 months.

She said for the residents and staff of the village, 2024 was a year filled with new experiences, memorable moments, and plenty of laughter.
But embracing the new often means letting go of the old, and that’s not always easy. People don’t usually like change, yet change is good.

The village’s Wellness Day was a huge success, providing residents with access to care-related service providers and healthcare expertise. The spring dance dinner was another highlight, with residents dancing the night away with friends and family.

“We have had many proud moments this year. We hosted collaborative events with the estate’s residents almost every month, where we enjoyed themed gatherings with great meals. These events provided residents with opportunities to socialise and enjoy fantastic music. We also held our first Wellness Day, which featured an array of care-related service providers offering their healthcare expertise, products, and services.

“We built new relationships. The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind visited us with their delightful pups, and local schoolchildren entertained our residents with their beautiful singing talents. Our spring dance dinner, held in partnership with the estate’s pub committee, The Departure Lounge, lasted well into the late night. With sore feet and full hearts.”

Venter added that perhaps reflection was less about the past and more about what you see beyond it.

“Let us celebrate how far we’ve come, the lessons we’ve learned, the passion we’ve nurtured, and the dreams we’ve pursued. Together, we’ve shared unforgettable moments, and the year ahead promises to be even more amazing. Here’s to a merry and bright 2025.’
