Under the umbrella of the 67 Blankets non-profit organisation founded by Carolyn Steyn, the KnitWits have been tirelessly knitting beautiful blankets for those in need.
Westdene resident and avid 67 Blankets contributor Bridget van Oerle spoke about some of their most memorable successes.

“We did interventions at correctional facilities to help rehabilitate prison inmates by teaching them how to make blankets for people on the outside whose lives have been affected by crime and poverty,” she said.
“To date, 67 Blankets has distributed hundreds of thousands of handmade blankets and scarves to those in need, setting four Guinness World Records in the process.”
On their special day, the KnitWits showcased their stunning handiwork, leaving all who attended in awe. The group’s creations are not only functional but also serve as symbols of hope and compassion. The birthday celebration was a vibrant affair, complete with delicious food, refreshing drinks, and playful games.

Steyn showered the KnitWits with gifts and praise and her presence was a reminder of the profound impact the KnitWits have had on their communities.

The knitting and crocheting movement was started with just a Facebook post when Steyn encouraged Good Samaritans to contribute towards the 67 Minutes for Nelson Mandela Day campaign in 2013.
Steyn said she had been challenged by the former personal assistant of Mandela, Zelda La Grange, to make 67 blankets for Madiba Day that year, and the organisation grew wings from that day on.
