Residents on edge as flooding hits Platina bridge in Jukskei Park, again

Once again, the Platina bridge in Jukskei Park has flooded following heavy rain.

The Platina bridge in Jukskei Park Bridge, has flooded again following the heavy rains last night [March 05].

Ward 115 Councillor Mark van der Merwe, explained the situation of the bridge, “The bridge flooded again last night, with JMPD and JRA on site the bridge is currently closed, residents and motorists are urged to avoid the the bridge until the further notice.”

“The state of the bridge is very dangerous with side walkways washed away, exposing water pipes, and electric cables. The risks have escalated yet again.”

“Fortunately no injuries were reported on the bridge, only one person attempted to cross the bridge. Thanks to EMS Services and Sea Rescue team who saved him.”

“I will be meeting JRA on sight at this morning to understand what their plans are going to be for bridge.”

Since the original flooding on March 7 2023, Van der Merwe has been expressing his grave concern to JRA about the state of the bridge and nearly two years later the bridge still remains a dangerous passage for both pedestrians and motorists.
