Joburg Water still has no timeframe for fixing the Pritchard Street leak
After a year of frustration over a leaking, water-filled hole on Pritchard Street, Joburg Water says repairs are now a priority as specialised materials become available.
After a year, Joburg Water still fails to provide a clear timeframe for when the year-long water leak and water-filled excavation on Pritchard Street will be fixed.
According to Puleng Mopeli of Joburg Water, the leak is on a 350mm asbestos-cement (AC) pipe that requires specialised materials, which were not readily available and had to be sourced privately, but the repair is now being prioritised.
She said this sourcing process is now at an advanced stage.

The leak has frustrated Ward 115 residents and ward councillor Mark van der Merwe for months, with water running down Pritchard Street into Witkoppen Road, creating potholes and posing risks to children and motorists.
Mopeli acknowledged the seriousness of the leak, “We recognise the seriousness of the leak and the potential hazards it may pose. The team is prioritising this repair and is working to resolve it as quickly as possible to minimise risk to the surrounding community.”
She also noted that Van der Merwe will be kept informed throughout the process.
“We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation during the resolution of this matter,” Mopeli added.
The Fourways Review will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as soon as a repair date is confirmed.
