Old Lions launch first-ever Ladies Cricket Clinic on Women’s Day

From beginners picking up a bat for the first time to seasoned players sharpening their skills, the clinic proved that women’s cricket at Old Lions has a bright future

On Women’s Day, August 11, the Old Lions Cricket Club made history by hosting its first-ever Ladies Cricket Clinic, a celebration of both the sport and the spirit of the day.

The clinic welcomed women of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to more experienced players. Coaching staff set up a variety of stations, introducing newcomers to the basics of batting, bowling, and fielding, along with a short crash course on cricket terminology.

Those with prior experience were put through their paces with full net sessions and high-intensity fielding drills. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with participants highlighting the warm and encouraging atmosphere that allowed them to enjoy the game without pressure.

Reflecting on the day, Old Lions Committee member and head of marketing and social media, Cameron Malcolm, said, “As a club, our mission is to create opportunities for players of all levels to enjoy cricket in a supportive, inclusive environment. This clinic was a reflection of that vision – offering a fun, relaxed, and welcoming space for women to step onto the field, learn new skills, and share in the joy of the game.

“Events like these remind us of the importance of growing the women’s game and giving back to the community. We were thrilled to see the smiles, laughter, and passion that filled the day, and look forward to hosting more initiatives that continue to open doors for women in cricket.”
