Con Brio Cares delivers 60 premmie bags to Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital

A Premmie Day initiative brought comfort, dignity, and essential support to families with premature babies at Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital, thanks to Con Brio Cares and its generous donors.

Con Brio Cares, a Fourways-based local non-profit organisation, celebrated Prematurity Awareness Month with a meaningful gesture on November 21.

They delivered around 60 premmie bags to the neonatal unit at Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital.

Each bag was carefully packed with essentials for premature babies, including soft blankets, beanies, booties, tiny clothing, and comfort items meant to provide warmth and support to the hospital’s smallest patients.

Mothers were not forgotten. The organisation included care items to ensure they felt seen, supported, and reminded that they are not alone during one of the most emotionally challenging journeys a parent can face.

The ward also received Vaseline and other important supplies needed to care for fragile newborns.

Elindi Elindi van den Heever, co-founder of Con Brio Cares, said the delivery brought profound gratitude and shared compassion. “Premmie babies are little fighters, and their families go through so much. We do this to remind them that they are supported, loved, and not walking this road alone. Every single donation is an act of Ubuntu, we are because we are together.”

She noted that the success of Premmie Day reflects the community’s readiness to step up for vulnerable families.

“Our hearts were full today. None of this would be possible without our donors, volunteers, and sponsors. Their kindness is what keeps this initiative alive,” said Elindi.

Con Brio Cares continues to support premature babies throughout the year and encourages the public to get involved. Donations of essentials like baby clothing, toiletries, and mom-care items are always in demand.
