Women’s Day inspires young women to be fearless
At just 16, these young women are already embracing the strength, courage, and resilience of those who came before them as they celebrate what women’s month means to their generation.
For a group of 16-year-old girls, women’s month is more than a celebration on the calendar; it is a reminder of the strength, courage, and possibilities that come with being a young woman.
The girls say the month gives them an opportunity to reflect on the women who came before them, celebrate the women in their lives, and look towards the future with confidence.
For Buhle Khophe, women’s month is a powerful reminder of the struggles women have overcome, and the strength those experiences have created. “Women’s Day is an inspirational month to remind us, as young women, where we came from, the struggles that we went through that brought us to where we are today, and how it defines us as young women. Her words capture the spirit of a generation growing up in a world where young women are increasingly encouraged to find their voices and believe in their abilities.
Lerato Mahape sees the month as an opportunity to recognise women for who they truly are. “I find it as a beautiful month which appreciates all the women that we have in our lives. It’s a very beautiful month for women to be seen for who they are and what they really are.”
For the girls, celebrating women is also about embracing identity and creating space for women to express themselves without fear.

Kelly Mpofu believes women’s month should encourage women to be proud of who they are and to allow their actions to speak for them. “What I think about women’s month is that we have to embrace being a female or a woman. I find it as a good idea for women to express how they are and show how their actions are.”
At just 16, these girls understand that the freedoms and opportunities they have today were shaped by women who refused to remain silent.
For them, the message is simple: I am a woman. I am fearless.
