Platina Road potholes finally repaired after rain delays

Just in time for the festive season, residents of Platina Road in Jukskei can breathe a sigh of relief as Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) completes major pothole repairs.

After months of frustration caused by worsening road conditions during the rainy season, potholes along Platina Road in Jukskei have finally been repaired.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) completed most of the outstanding repairs on December 12, bringing much-needed relief to motorists and residents who rely on the busy route.

Ward 115 councillor Mark van der Merwe welcomed the progress and extended his thanks to JRA for completing the work despite challenging weather conditions.

“It’s been a long wait during the rainy season, but JRA eventually managed to fill in most of the potholes on Platina Road.”

Van der Merwe explained that the delay in repairs was not due to inaction, but rather the persistent rainfall that made it unsafe and impractical to carry out effective pothole repairs.

“The delay was due to the rain. They cannot repair potholes when the surface and the potholes are wet. They needed a break in the rain to do the repairs properly.”

Frequent rainfall over recent weeks has caused existing potholes to worsen while also preventing repair teams from working safely and effectively. Road surfaces need to be dry to ensure that repair materials bond correctly and last, making weather conditions a critical factor in road maintenance.

Van der Merwe thanked residents for their patience and acknowledged the inconvenience experienced during the prolonged wet period.

“I’d like to thank residents for their understanding and patience, and to thank JRA for eventually getting the work done once conditions allowed,” he said.

With the repairs now completed, Platina Road is safer and more accessible for daily commuters, public transport operators, and pedestrians.

Residents are encouraged to continue reporting road issues so that they can be addressed at hotline@jra.org.za.
