Fourways Improvement District restores order at Cedar and Lombardy roads intersection
A problematic intersection in Broadacres has been transformed with new bollards and landscaping, as the Fourways Improvement District steps in to restore safety, order, and compliance with the law.
The Fourways Improvement District (FWID) has completed another impactful project at the corner of Cedar Road and Lombardy Road in Broadacres, addressing long-standing safety concerns and restoring order at a problematic intersection.
Ward 94 councillor David Foley, who is also a founder member of the Fourways Improvement District, said the area had long been a source of concern due to ongoing complaints about illegal activity and safety risks. “This corner has had numerous complaints over time, including food trailers, vendors, grass sellers, and a whole lot of unsavoury characters setting up shop here.”
The site lies alongside a provincial road, where legislation prohibits pedestrians and informal trading within 50m of a dual carriageway.
Foley said Lombardy Road is classified as a secondary road and has been particularly affected by these challenges.

To address the issue, FWID has implemented a comprehensive intervention, which includes the installation of new bollards and landscaping with fresh planting, physically preventing illegal occupation while improving the visual appeal of the intersection. “What’s been happening here today is a collective effort. You can see a whole lot of new bollards being put up and a lot of planting going on.

“This is just another fantastic project by the Fourways Improvement District. You can see the dramatic changes that have happened around the Fourways area. We will take Fourways back, and it will follow the law completely.”
Foley also encouraged residential complexes and property owners, particularly in Broadacres and Craigavon, to support FWID through monthly contributions. “These projects show exactly what can be achieved when the community works together.”
This upgrade has been warmly welcomed by residents, with Foley describing it as an early Christmas present for the community.
