Douglasdale Community Policing Forum chairperson Lizzy Mabena extended warm wishes to residents, while reflecting on a year marked by reduced crime, stronger partnerships, and renewed commitment to community safety.

The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) has extended heartfelt Christmas and New Year wishes to all residents of the Douglasdale Policing Precinct, encouraging the community to celebrate safely and remain vigilant during the festive season.

“May this festive season bring peace, joy, and renewed hope,” said CPF chairperson Lizzy Mabena.

According to the latest precinct overview for 2024/25, Douglasdale recorded an overall decline in crime, with contact crimes, such as assault and robbery decreasing by 16.5%. However, the CPF has raised concerns about a noticeable increase in fraud and online-related cases. Residents are urged to remain cautious, particularly when using online marketplaces that advertise deals that may be too good to be true.

Reflecting on the achievements of 2025, the Douglasdale CPF highlighted major milestones that strengthened community safety and partnerships. Successful quarterly public meetings improved engagement between residents, the CPF, SAPS and ward councillors.

Infrastructure improvements were also achieved with the installation of six solar-powered lights in the public parking area of the Douglasdale Police Station, improving safety and visibility. The CPF is currently in the process of upgrading and refurbishing the parking lot area to allow for better and more co-ordinated access to the station.

Awareness campaigns also formed a major part of the CPF’s work this year, with active efforts to discourage residents from supporting illegal traffic controllers and promote responsible reporting of crime. These proactive initiatives earned the CPF recognition for helping to keep Douglasdale safer and more welcoming. “Together, we have shown that community spirit is stronger than crime. As we step into 2026, we remain committed to safeguarding our community with vigilance, unity, and care.”

As the community bids farewell to 2025, the Douglasdale CPF celebrates the strides made together in reducing crime, strengthening community bonds, and investing in safety projects that light the way forward. Residents are reminded that safety is not only the responsibility of the police, but a shared role embraced by every member of the community.
