Mosa Makhalima, of the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), acknowledged receipt of media enquiries regarding infrastructure concerns outside Curro Douglasdale, where unresolved repairs and a long-standing water leak have raised safety concerns.
The issue, located directly in front of the school, involves a leak that has reportedly persisted for more than a year, along with incomplete road and storm water repair work.

Ward 106 councillor Chris Santana said the prolonged delays are placing both motorists and residents at risk, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
According to Santana, the problems began after Johannesburg Water responded to a burst pipe at the site. While the immediate pipe damage was repaired, he said the work left behind significant infrastructure concerns, including the removal of a storm water drain that has yet to be reinstated.

Santana warned that the absence of the storm water system poses a serious flooding risk, especially as the area is known to experience water accumulation during heavy rainfall. “The conversation that I’ve had with JRA and Johannesburg Water was to please come and resolve and reinstate the storm water drain, so that the road does not flood when we have rain, because this road floods.”
He further raised concerns about incomplete reinstatement work, noting that kerbing and road repairs have also not been finalised. “You can see they still haven’t even reinstated the kerbing, never mind the storm water system and road reinstatements.

“My frustration is that these are long-standing issues. Almost 18 months I’ve been trying to fight for this issue to be resolved.”

Santana added that officials from both JRA and Johannesburg Water visited the site in September last year and undertook to resolve the matter within 30 days. However, he said there has been little visible progress since then.
