WBE68 raises the bar for Action Boxing
Action Boxing delivered another stellar night at WBE68, with Jean Botes earning a unanimous points victory over Henry Madini in a high-level Master Box SA number one contender bout, booking his shot at champion James Britz at WBE70.
Action Boxing delivered another impressive night of competition at WBE68 on May 6, with fighters showcasing rising standards to the electric atmosphere at Lock, Stock & Beer in Pineslopes, Johannesburg.
Founder Stephen Castle said: “WBE68 was another strong step forward for Action Boxing, What stood out most was the level of commitment from the fighters. You could see that people are taking the preparation more seriously, training harder, and understanding the sport better each event. The quality of the bouts continues to improve because of that.”

The standout bout of the evening was the number one middleweight contender clash between Henry Madini and Jean Botes. “It was a high-level fight with real stakes attached to it, and both fighters delivered. Botes secured a unanimous points victory after a disciplined and composed performance, earning himself the number one contender spot. He will now go on to face reigning champion James Britz for the Master Box SA title at WBE70 in July.

“The crowd energy at Lock, Stock & Beer was outstanding as well. The venue creates a close, intense atmosphere where every exchange gets a reaction from the audience.”
One of the most pleasing aspects, for Castle, remains the sportsmanship shown after the fights. “Behind the scenes, one of the standout things for me is always the respect between fighters after the bouts. People come from different gyms, backgrounds, and experience levels, but at the end of the night there’s genuine respect because everyone understands what it takes to step into the ring.”

Castle believes the sport’s future in South Africa is bright. “Action Boxing in South Africa continues to grow rapidly. More people are looking for real challenges and authentic experiences, and this sport gives ordinary people the opportunity to safely test themselves in a proper boxing environment.”

Excitement is already building for the next event. “WBE69, titled: Nations Collide, takes place in June and will feature a team from Namibia taking on a South African team in an international Action Boxing showdown. It’s going to bring a completely different energy to the event, with national pride, team rivalry, and a packed night of action in the ring.”
With improving fighter quality and growing interest, Castle is optimistic about what lies ahead. “Fans can expect bigger events, stronger matchups, and continued growth in the overall standard of the fighters. For anyone thinking about stepping into the sport, there has never been a better time to get involved.”
