Resident concerned with the state of pavements and incomplete municipal projects

Concerned residents said pavements in some parts of Fourways area have been dug up but never repaired.

Fourways resident Tanya Stevendale has raised concerns with what she described as a complete lack of services and completion of work on infrastructure in and around the Fourways and Lonehill areas.

Stevendale claimed pavements in some parts of Fourways have been dug up but never repaired or cleared after the work had been completed.

“These areas are enormous safety hazards and with further rains can only lead to complete disaster. It’s one thing to navigate through load-shedding but now we have to avoid serious hazards, not to mention the huge potholes that one could plant trees in them,” Stevendale said.

Ward 94 councillor David Foley said he was aware of these issues and was working with all relevant departments to effect the repairs including potholes.

He said the issue of dug-up pavements was reported to Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) officials during a recent walkabout led by Region A director Abigail Ndlovu.

“Johannesburg Water is currently replacing the water pipe on Cedar Road and Uranium Street so they needed to dig up there. On the corner of Uranium Street and Bushwillow Avenue, there is a water leak issue which was repaired previously and the whole road was dug up and fixed.
“I spoke to Joburg Water on Monday during a walkabout. They will need to dig again and JRA will need to repair thereafter.”

The spokesperson at Johannesburg Water Puleng Mopeli said, “We encourage residents of the city and our customers to report water pipe bursts and spots where pavements were dug up but not repaired after work.”
JRA was contacted for comment but could not respond to the matter.
