Douglasdale Police Station reports decrease in contact crime and property-related crime in 2024/2025 fourth quarter stats
The Douglasdale police station has reported a 16.5% decrease in contact crime, with notable declines in property and contact-related crimes. However, a concerning trend has emerged in aggravated robbery, specifically robbery at residential premises, which saw a four-count increase in cases.
The latest crime statistics for Gauteng, released as part of the national crime statistics, show a mixed bag of results. While some crime categories have decreased, others have increased, showing the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in the province.
The Douglasdale Police Station has reported a decline in contact crime against a person of 16.5%. However, a concerning trend has emerged in aggravated robbery, specifically robbery at residential premises, which saw a four count increase from the previous period (July 2023 to September 2024), when only 19 cases were reported.
The station has seen 17 community reported serious crimes, such as shoplifting, theft, and commercial crime, which is a decrease of 3.2%.
Other serious crimes increased by 7.8%, with a 6.6% decrease of crime detected as a result of police action.
When it comes to the province as a whole, notable successes is the decrease in contact crime, which includes murder, attempted murder, and assault with grievous bodily harm.
According to the statistics, contact crime decreased by 3.0% in the second quarter of 2024/2025. Murder, in particular, decreased by 5.8%, while sexual offenses decreased by 2.5%.
However, not all crime categories in Gauteng showed a decrease. Commercial crime, for example, increased by 18.5% during the same period.

The Gauteng police have also reported successes in their efforts to combat drug trafficking. In July, a raid on a drug manufacturing facility in Gauteng resulted in the seizure of mandrax and drug manufacturing tools valued at R2.6m. Four suspects were arrested in connection with the raid.
In another operation, six suspects were arrested for their involvement in the kidnapping of a businessman. Crystal meth worth R300m was also confiscated during that operation.
