Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club and ExPro bring Christmas cheer to children from The Family Africa Centre in Diepsloot

With the help of generous donations, and the support of Hollywood Bets, the team was able to collect and wrap gifts for children in hospitals and orphanages.

The spirit of giving lives amongst the members of the Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club, in collaboration with ExPro, a non-profit organisation, as they successfully completed their Christmas toy drive initiative.

After collecting donations, and wrapping gifts from November 23, the team is ready to deliver them to children in hospitals and orphanages.

For Steve Margo, a member of the Rotary Club, witnessing the excitement and happiness on the children’s faces as they unwrap their gifts is a moment he is eagerly waiting for on December 6.

He said this is a heartwarming experience he looks forward to every year.

Christopher Thompson wraps gifts for kids in need.

“The wrapping of gifts gives me a good feeling every year. We were able to receive cash donations, and I went shopping with Christopher Thompson, who is a good friend of mine. We packed bags of toys to be handed over to The Family Africa Centre in Diepsloot extension two.”

This year’s toy drive is a continuation of a decade-long tradition, and the team is thrilled to bring smiles to the faces of numerous children in need. Margo said he has been doing this for 17 years now and thought of switching things up a little bit this year.

“Usually, we are asking for donations of second-hand toys, or those that are not used. But this year, we thought it would be a great idea for those who wish to donate toys, to bring a new one. We have noticed that most of the time, when we were requesting the second-hand ones, they’d be a little dirty and needed to be washed. This is not an obligation but just a request to put a big smile on those kid’s faces, knowing that the toys are new from the box.”

Margo said they collect all types of toys, from kitchen sets for girls, cars for boys, and so forth for the initiative.

“When we package them, we do it according to their gender and indicate as well if the toys are unisex.”

Margo said Hollywood Bets has also played a huge role in making sure this year’s toy drive becomes a success. “Hollywood Bets has even organised games for the kids to play during the day. We are so grateful for their support and community at large.”
