‘Together for a healthier tomorrow’ Witkoppen Clinic’s festive message to the community
Witkoppen Clinic celebrates 78 years of delivering quality care, reducing carbon footprint, and making a lasting impact in northern Johannesburg communities.
Since 1946, Witkoppen Clinic has been dedicated to providing quality primary healthcare to diverse communities in northern Johannesburg, including surrounding informal settlements.
Despite facing significant challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and elevated disease risk, the clinic remains committed to filling crucial healthcare gaps.
“As we reflect on 2024, I’m heartened by the progress we’ve made,” said Dr Jean Bassett, executive director of Witkoppen Clinic.

“Our steadfast supporters have enabled us to make a profound difference in the lives of our patients, staff, and the wider community.”
This year, Witkoppen Clinic celebrated Mandela Day by launching a campaign to raise R67 000, symbolising 67 minutes of service in honour of Mandela’s legacy.
The initiative aimed to subsidise consultation fees for patients who might otherwise be unable to afford care.
“We’re thrilled to have surpassed our fundraising goal, thanks to partnerships with organisations like ROMPCO and the Merrow Down Charity Club. Additionally, local businesses and community groups have contributed significantly to our renovation efforts and patient wellness,” said Bassett.

Witkoppen Clinic has also made significant strides in reducing its carbon footprint.
“We’ve installed solar panels, motion sensor lights, and LED bulbs, significantly reducing our electricity consumption. These gains will enable us to hire two additional nurses.”
The clinic achieved a 93.85% Ideal Clinic Platinum Status rating, a 3.22% improvement from the previous year. Bassett said this reflected their ongoing commitment to improving operations and delivering quality care.
Looking ahead to 2025, Witkoppen Clinic has launched a convenient debit order system which allows businesses and individuals to contribute directly to the clinic’s mission. “We’re grateful for the support and look forward to building on this year’s successes.”
As the year draws to a close, Bassett and the Witkoppen Clinic team extend their warmest festive season and New Year’s wishes.
“We’re incredibly grateful for our staff’s hard work, our patients’ resilience, and our community’s commitment. Together, we’ll continue making a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.”
