LRA emphasises community cleanliness in weekly efforts

To maintain neighbourhood cleanliness, the LRA urges residents to practise responsible waste disposal and report illegal dumping as part of their ongoing community initiatives.

As part of the Lonehill Residents’ Association (LRA) green team’s weekly schedule, they aim to make a difference in the greater Lonehill area ensuring that the neighbourhood does not decay due to a lack of service delivery.

Despite ongoing efforts to keep Lonehill clean, the association has encountered issues with residents illegally dumping domestic waste, rubble, and broken electronics into communal bins, creating unnecessary challenges.

Shelly Miller, the association’s spokesperson said, “The LRA is dedicated to keeping our community clean, safe, and beautiful.
“However, irresponsible disposal practices are putting a strain on our resources. We urge our residents to be mindful of how these bins are utilised. If you witness anyone improperly dumping waste, please notify the LRA or Fidelity [security] right away so that action can be taken.”

She reminded residents not to place garden waste such as leaves, grass, and shrub cuttings into the Pikitup bins or dump it in the area. The Pikitup service does not accept garden refuse and the improper use of these bins has led to overflowing trash and a decline in neighbourhood aesthetics.

“This behaviour is unacceptable. If you miss the scheduled collection days for kitchen waste, please do not dispose of it in the community bins, as many of these are not collected by Pikitup. The LRA then faces the burden of having to remove this waste and transport it to the dump.”

For those looking to dispose of garden refuse or uncollected waste, the LRA encourages using the Pikitup Kyalami site, located at 11 Cedar Road, Kyalami AH, Midrand. The site is open from 08:00 to 15:30, seven days a week.

“The LRA continues to engage in various initiatives, including ‘Making A Difference,’ which supports the ongoing upkeep of the greater Lonehill area. Residents are encouraged to rally behind these efforts to foster a cleaner, more welcoming community for all.”
